Every teacher should use a combination of formative and summative assessment, and I believe that most do, even if they aren't aware of it. Below are some examples of assessment that I have used in the past and some that I have created to show what I would use in my own classroom in the future. Dante's Inferno Final Project

When my seniors were finished with their webquest and reading of Dante's Inferno, I had them create their own heaven or hell. They had specific expectations to meet and the students really enjoyed this project and got to explore the creativity and thought process that Dante himself probably experienced.

Mabeth Quiz

Below is an example of a quiz that I gave my students during their reading on Shakespeare's Macbeth. I also tend to give 5-point reading quizzes via PowerPoint and have students write their answers on slips of paper, trade them, and grade them.

Macbeth Final Exam

Here is an example of a final exam that I would give. It has a mixture of multiple choice, matching, fill in the blank, and essay. I like to try to hit as many cognitive functions in a final exam as I can.

Research Rubric

While my junior-level students were reading The Da Vinci Code, I assigned a mini-research presentation to complete in groups. Below is the rubric that I used to grade the presentations.

Example Syllabus

Although I have never had a classroom of my own, I am aware of some of the "extras" that go into succesfully maintaining an educational atmosphere. Part of that is setting expectations from the start of the year. Below is a syllabus that I have created for a fictional classroom and would use as a template for future classes that I will have.
